A fifteen-year-old boy has been judged to life behind bars with a minimum term of sixteen years for the killing of another schoolmate Harvey Willgoose during a lunch break.
The defendant pierced the deceased, who was also 15, through the chest with a weapon at the learning facility in February.
Mrs Justice Naomi Ellenbogen revoked the identity protection order on the defendant during sentencing at the courthouse.
Harvey's mother expressed she felt "as if a heavy burden has been taken off my shoulders" following the sentencing.
The pair of youths had previously argued over digital networks in the period leading up to the fatal event.
The mother remarked she was glad the base duration had been determined above the statutory minimum of fifteen years.
"My father has been undergoing medical treatment through the trial and he just couldn't persist any longer," she stated.
Before the murder on February 3rd, the defendant and Harvey had taken conflicting viewpoints in a separate dispute between other pupils.
Surveillance video from the date of the knife attack displayed the assailant moving toward the deceased in the school yard shortly after midday.
Bystanders described a environment of "chaos", with those present "running, yelling all around" during the brutal event.
During the court case, the accused claimed he had not intended to cause death to the deceased or cause him grave injury, stating he could not recall what had happened.
Prosecutors countered that he had "desired to prove he was tough" and "understood exactly what he was doing".
"You acted as the provoker and... you behaved in hurt and anger at what you considered to be his disloyalty of your relationship," stated the judge during sentencing.
The school issued a announcement stating that the student was "greatly mourned every day by the entire learning environment".
Investigators highlighted the catastrophic outcomes of carrying weapons, noting that a "momentary action" can forever change multiple existences.
This tragedy has initiated persistent dialogues about teenage aggression, blade possession, and educational security measures throughout the region.
